Puzzle: why do many telemarketers oppose the Do Not Call list? Telemarketers know they have to place many, many calls to find one poor sucker they can fleece. Why shouldn't they welcome the government's help in narrowing the search? (Aside from a this-regulation-will-be-just-the-beginning fear which is probably legitimate.)
Possible answer: what people say they want and want they actually want are not always the same.


This is a great point. One of the reasons capitalism
is the most ethical form of exchange is because producers
usually have powerful financial incentives to treat consumers
well; i.e., irritating people will not make you rich.
That adult producers don't recognize this basic reality
is a result of our failure to teach this stuff young
(something I'm trying to do). :)
