Before leaving the U. of Chicago, Ngan Dinh has posted a "good-bye gift," an essay entitled, "The Day Before Yesterday," about Professor Gary Becker.

Ms. Dinh took Becker's graduate price theory course and made a C. At the end of her first year of graduate study she took, but failed to pass, the core exam. She retook Becker's course and made another C. Halfway through her second year, preparing to retake the core, she asked him for help. Profesor Becker agreed to meet with her once a week.

That would be Gary S. Becker, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics.

That, friends, is a teacher. And a mensch. And Ms. Dinh's essay is quite a testament to the man.
