Olympic medals: actual versus predicted

All the medals from this year's Olympics have been awarded. Actual medal count is here; economist Andrew B. Bernard's predictions are here.

For total medals, the U.S. did slightly better than forecast. China--home field advantage?--and Great Britain did substantially better. Russia and Japan did worse.

As I've not tired of telling people yet. The British Empire* won these games: as, indeed, it has won more than 30% of all medals ever awarded.

(* you do of course need to include all those places which were once part of said Empire to make this work.)
