doesn't it just basically become a barter economy? WHo would actually accept such worthless currency?

Well, since it is already a government of Rule by Violence and now they have an epidemic (diphtheria?) killing dozens and undoubtedly leading to more, what's left?
I suppose some European country will allow Sir Bob in to end his life in luxury.
